We have reserved a house on Hanalei Bay for the ceremony and we would love if you could stay in Hanalei to be near the week’s festivities.  These places fill up fast, so we wanted to give you some info that will help you find and book something soon.

We have included some websites of vacation rentals that are on the North Shore.  If you can’t stay in Hanalei then I suggest you don’t go any further than Princeville or Ha’ena.  If you stay too far outside of these areas you may end up doing an inordinate amount of driving.

If you have never been to Kauai please feel free to ask me any questions before you book.

Here are links for rental agencies and private owner’s websites to help guide you. Memorial Day weekend is right before peak season so the rates should be lower than summer and Holiday rates. The Hanalei Palms area is across the street from the ceremony house and Pavilion.  It is an ideal location containing big and small houses at reasonable rates.

If you have been to Kauai you know this, but if this is your first time to Kauai… you will need to rent a car. Places on Kauai are very spread out and this will help you see the whole island. It is Memorial Day weekend and there are a finite number of cars on the island. Please be smart and plan ahead, so you can get a good deal and get a car!

Here is some information that may be helpful in booking a flight to Kauai:

  • The internet is the place to find deals. Here are some sites to check. If we see any good deals we will post them. Good luck!
  • If you create a profile on www.kayak.com, you can sign up to be alerted by e-mail or text message daily or weekly of the current pricing for your selected airports and dates. This is an easy way to figure out when to buy, increasing your chance of getting the best deal.
  • The airport on Kauai is in Lihue, LIH.
  • American Airlines and United Airlines fly nonstop from LAX to LIH.
  • This is the quickest, however, you may be able to find a cheaper flight if you stop in Honolulu first and catch an interisland flight to Kauai.
  • www.hawaiianairlines.com and www.iflygo.com (Mesa Airlines) fly interisland, so if you fly to Honolulu (HNL) you can usually get a connecting flight over to Kauai (LIH) for around $50
  • Most of the direct flights are night flights departing Kauai and arrive late evening/night. If you don’t want to drive the dark roads of Kauai you might want to get a day flight, or early eve. The layover on Oahu is not a big deal, usually just an extra hour in the Honolulu airport.

We would like to plan some excursions… like a 2 mile hike to Hanakapai, a beach BBQ, possibly even a boat trip down the Napali coast, etc. I’ll keep ya'll posted below.

Kauai has so many things to do; surf, kayak, snorkel, hike, cliff jump, zip line, bike, tan, explore, sneak into hot tubs, eat, talk story, BBQ, tubing, swim, lounge, etc….you get the point.

Realizing that not everyone has been to a wedding in Hawaii, let alone a wedding on the beach, we wanted to make sure we included this category (thanks Marina and Adam). The reason for addressing this is not to suggest a dress code. As far as we are concerned anything goes. However, we realize that some people may feel more comfortable with a little guidance. The following recommendations are simply to give an idea of what might be typical for a beach wedding in Kauai.

Hawaiian style weddings are pretty casual by mainland standards. Men do not wear suits and ties, and women no pantyhose! You can wear shoes or flip flops or just go barefoot, but be sure you are ready to dance. Semi-formal Hawaiian attire typically consists of something like this…

Women: Sundresses, skirts, dresses… whatever makes you happy. Flats or wedges recommended because of the sand (or just come barefoot).

Men: Nice shorts or slacks and an Aloha shirt or decent button down. “Rubba Slippas” (as the locals can them) or flip-flops are okay (or just come barefoot).

The island of Kauai is a far cry from the overburdened bustle and hype of Honolulu or Maui. By some virtue, Kauai has retained its rustic and relaxed appeal. Perhaps it is that Kauai, being the oldest in the chain of Hawaiian Islands, is the most stubborn and unwilling to change.

Estimated to be approximately 7 million years old, the island is but a small eroded remnant of a much larger volcano, long-since extinct. The elements of wind, rain and surf have over the eons whittled away at the rock, sculpting the land into a varied terrain of deep verdant valleys, vertical cliff walls, and long meandering seashores.
